How to Remove an Etch Mark Caused by Lime Juice on Bluestone

Q. Some lime juice got spilled on my Bluestone table top and it left a big dull spot. Is there anything I can do to bring back the shine?

A. Maybe. If the etch is severe (deep to the point that it looks and feels rough), then you will need to hire a professional stone refinisher. If the etch is light (the depth is undetectable by the naked eye, and it looks and feels smooth), then there is a professional grade product that is user-friendly enough for the do-it-yourselfer that should do the trick for you. Ask your stone professional to recommend an etch remover marble polish. Then, just follow the directions on the container, but be sure to test it out in an inconspicuous spot, just in case it doesn‘t produce the desired result. If your table top were a hone-finished marble, then you‘d probably need to hire a professional stone restoration contractor, because etch remover would leave a polished finish that would not match the surrounding stone. However, Bluestone is a type of sandstone, so it should not polish like marble. You‘ll just need to try out it, see how it goes, and leave it to a professional if it doesn‘t work out.
