tumbled crema marfil floor etched
Q: Hi, I have a tumbled crema marfil kitchen floor. It is 5 years old. It appears to hold the dirt in cracks that appear to have increased over time. When I have the floor steamed cleaned it looks really great but months later it becomes so dirty again! I have it sealed each time but to no avail. Also the steam cleaner told me to use vinegar mixed with hot water to clean, I guess I have been ruining the floor, how can I fix this?
A: Vinegar is the worst thing you can use to clean a marble floor. The vinegar you are using to clean with is acidic and is most likely causing the stone to develop these cracks and has dulled (etched) the finish of your floor. There are a few things that can be done, such as filling the cracks with an epoxy fill, but I would not recommend trying this yourself. I would visit our "Find A Pro" section to locate a pro in your area to have them come in and evaluate the severity of the damage. In the meantime, stop using the vinegar and switch to a good marble (neutral) cleaner safe for marble), available at Stone Care Central.
