Resin on Stone Can Peel and Crack

A reader notified Stone and Tile PROS that the resin coatings on his marble table top was cracking. Indeed, some manufacturers will use resins to create a topical rather than natural polish. However, resins will become brittle with time, especially when exposed to UV light.

If this is happening to your marble, you have two options. The first would be to strip the resin off and reapply more. The second would be to strip the resin off and have the top polished naturally. The strippers required for this job can be pretty nasty so it may be something you want to have done by a pro.

For the pros and cons of each option, please visit the Stone and Tile PROS Knowledge Base with  hundreds of answers to readers' questions about their stone and tile.
