Marble Comes In More Than White

If you are thinking about having your formica countertops or porcelain tile floors replaced with a richly colored, luxurious, and strikingly veined natural stone, don't discount marble.

How Marble Got A Boring White Reputation

Italy’s Carrara Marble, which is white or blue-gray, is a popular stone choice for headstones, federal buildings, statues, and monuments. As such, marble is commonly associated with white or gray. But in reality, there are at least 2,000 colors of marble on the market.

About Colored Marble

Colored marbles are the result of other minerals like serpentine, sand, iron oxide and clay being mixed with the calcite or dolomite. Colored marble is quarried worldwide. Ireland gives us green Connemara marble. Stateside, Georgia brings us Etowah marble, a pinkish, rose and salmon colored stone.

About Marble Veining

Veining is layers of crystalized minerals within the marble rock. Although some marble will exhibit little or no veining, most marble will usually have some type of veining that pops against the main backdrop color of the stone. Veining is a unique feature that causes variation so that each natural stone tile is different from the next.

When you think about marble, think green. Or pink. Or blue. Or brown. There’s a kaleidoscope of marble out there waiting to be discovered.
